Assembly Instructions
Don't panic.
Assembly of this product is extremely easy. The instructions below may seem a little long, but they are just a set of easy-to-follow steps. They are also best practise for the application of the paper to the ceiling.
What you will find is that the process will take around 50 minutes, but you will be hanging around drinking a cup of tea for around 30 minutes of that time.
If you felt like doing it a different way, such as using another adherence method or to a wall, then that is completely your call, but the recommended way is below.
Activity |
Time |
|
| 1 | Check to see your ceiling isn’t about to fall down and is reasonably smooth | 2 seconds |
| 2 | Prepare a solution of half strength wallpaper paste (provided) – follow instructions on side of the packet (around 30 seconds). Stir for a couple of minutes so that there are no lumps. Leave for a couple of minutes | 2½ minutes |
| 3 | Brush the solution on the ceiling or wall to which the paper will be applied. | 2 minutes |
| 4 | Allow to dry (2 cups of tea and a biscuit) – this will seal the surface and allow the paper to stick correctly | REST |
| 5 | Prepare the rest of the wallpaper paste (you’ll have plenty left over)– read the instructions on packet. (2 minutes max) | 2 minutes |
| 6 | Apply to the back of the paper. Make sure that there is a generous covering of paste, especially at the sides and corners (about 1.5 minute each). Tip: rather than having them open to the elements, it is probably easier to fold the corners together so that you don’t put your elbow into the paste. | 1½ minutes |
| 7 | Important – leave the paper to absorb the paste for 5-10 minutes | REST |
| 8 | Fix each paper to the desired location using a soft dry brush on the image surface. Use your hands to gently manoeuvre the paper into the correct position - around 2.5 minutes each. Align so that there is a tiny overlap (no more than a couple of millimetres) of the pages - as the paper dries it contracts. This is good news as it makes the paper tighter and it looks smoother. So appliers, show the paper when still wet and then say ‘I’ll sort it out’ and then relax as the paper rights itself. | 2½ minutes each |
| 9 | If there are any bumps because of bits of paste that haven’t completely dissolved, smooth over. A painter and decorator will have a roller. You can use a spoon (but just roll the spoon over the bump, don’t drag across the surface. | A couple of minutes |
| That is it. | REST | |
A professional decorator will bring a pasting table, a dust sheet, various brushes and a roller. What he is really bringing is: a flat surface (tick), an old sheet (tick), a paint brush (every home has one of those) and a big brush to press the paper to the wall (so therefore another paint brush). You can get a proper one for a few pounds, but if you have one brush, you will definitely have another somewhere, because you bought that cheap set of brushes once when you felt enthusiastic about DIY. You only used one and the others haven’t escaped. As a general rule, however, you should always use the correct equipment when performing DIY.
